Interesting CD releases for June 9 by uncdiversions

Record release day again, and this one’s got goodies for almost any taste.

First up, venerable rock band Sonic Youth drops its much anticipated new CD The Eternal.

Though a metal experiment was promised early on, word is that what is delivered is not that far out of the ordinary for the band. But when you routinely mix together one the best mixes of post-punk experimentalism around, why change it up too much?

If this release has peaked your interest make sure to check out the review of the album in this week’s DTH.

Next on the docket is the new release from rapper Mos Def.

Though most of the attention on him has been on his acting, it was his quick-witted flow with a microphone that first got him noticed.

This time, he returns with The Ecstatic, his first album since 2006. Everything appears to be in order for this to be another solid effort with good early reviews and a requisite appearance from Mos Def’s Black Star collaborator Talib Kweli.

Also coming out this week is the new album from The Dirty Projectors.

The newest release from leader Dave Longstreth has been praised by critics since it leaked to the Internet two months ago.

If it’s the full encapsulation and payoff of Longstreth’s always interesting meanderings through experimental pop that’ its’ been lauded to be, it should be quite a great listen. If not, it’s still a Dirty Projectors record, and by that token should still be at least pretty good.

Alright, that’s the cream of the crop from this week. I’ll be back next Tuesday with a fresh batch.
