As you can see by the poster to the left, The Club is Open is back with its second annual music festival.

The event will take place in Chapel Hill and Carrboro at Jack Sprat, the Reservoir, Local 506 and Cat’s Cradle. There will be a show each night July 7 through 11 there will be a show each night.

This year, the proceeds from the event will go to fund CyTunes.org, a music downloading site set up to raise money to pay for the bills of fallen local music advocate Cy Rawls who died of cancer last year.

Proceeds will also fund Duke’s Tisch Brain Center where Rawls received treatment.

This year’s line-up assembles a who’s who in the best of Triangle rock music.

Included will be a resurrection of Durham “acousticore” royalty the Future Kings of Nowhere, who despite claiming ends and hiatuses frequently as of late, can’t seem to play it’s last show. Thre will also be a set by Greensboro’s excellent psych-folk group Filthybird.

In addition, Red Collar, the Loners and Hammer No More The Fingers have all been included in the News & Observer’s annual Great 8 list which names the eight bands the publication feels have the biggest shot at making it big.

So all told, it should be one hell of a week to go out and see some great shows in Orange County.

And if you’re looking for a live preview of some of the festival’s bands, this will be a great week to get it.

Pink Flag plays the Reservoir tomorrow, Hammer No More The Fingers plays the Station in Carrboro on Thursday, the Loners play the Reservoir on Saturday and Nathan Oliver plays the Pinhook in Durham on Saturday.
