I doubt many of your first thoughts whenever you originally came across the Smiths’ classic single “The Boy With the Thorn in His Side” was “Man, this would sound awesome if it were backed by a chamber ensemble!” It certainly wasn’t mine. But apparently Daniel Hart, mastermind of excellent Durham chamber-pop outfit The Physics of Meaning had such a cognition as he has done just this on a cover of the song destined for TMS Loves MOZ, a tribute to Smiths frontman Morrissey by music blog The Music Slut in honor of the star’s fiftieth birthday. The 19-song compilation will be unveiled a song at a time on the blog each weekday, a process that started May 4 and will conclude May 28.

Physics’ contribution can be previewed at their MySpace and of course downloaded at the post on Music Slut. Go forth and enjoy.
