Itching for some great new local music? Well you’re in luck. In advance of the release of its latest full-length due out July 21, Durham experimental folk heavyweight Megafaun has just released a song from that album, Gather, Form and Fly, which will be hitting record stores via Home Tapes. The song, entitled “The Fade,” is available now on the band’s MySpace. It’s by far one of the most traditionally pop tunes the band has yet released, flowing along easily to a swaying country melody fleshed out with banjo and slide guitar. Per usual, the lyrics concern something about dying, missing people and moving on, though because of Megafaun’s ever-present and frustratingly appealing use of the cryptic, I haven’t quite figured it out yet. But it’s good listening nonetheless.
