Nathan Oliver – Local 506 – Mar. 7

Though Nathan White of Chapel Hill band Nathan Oliver might come off as composed and in control on record, the off-kilter torrent of a performance his band delivered at its Saturday CD-release party was a testament to the visceral emotion that underlies his bitter jams. White and company added more grit and fury to the arrangements utilizing more distortion in the guitars and replacing all the string parts with one blaring, angry horn. It was a performance worthy in every way of celebrating the band’s excellent new release Cloud Animals. The Proclivities and Schooner were also on hand, introducing the guests of honor with impassioned performances of excellent pop-rock.
