Physics of Meaning and Lost In The Trees – Nightlight – Feb. 5

Thursday night’s show at Nightlight was a display of two of Chapel-Hill-based Trekky Records’ best bands doing what they do best. Physics of Meaning and Lost In The Trees both delivered sets that were full of enough emotion that it threatened to burst from the small, packed venue. Physics of Meaning, playing as the four-piece they’re about to take on the road, may have sounded a little more minimal then they do on record, but the band more than made for this by being able to play looser and with more passion then when they get out the string section and keys. Surrounded by some of their good friend, Lost In The Trees imbued Ari Picker’s devastating odes to loss with a bright wistful air. Feeding off the crowd that was singing along to almost every word, the band played a set that made loss seem manageable as everyone in the room had obviously gone through it before.
