Merge to throw birthday party this summer by uncdiversions

Twenty years ago, Merge started up in Chapel Hill, releasing cassettes and singles. Now, twenty years later, and after releasing indie classics by heavyweights like Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire and Spoon, the label will celebrate two decades with a huge party right here in the label’s backyard.

Here’s what the label’s website had to say:

“All year we’ll be celebrating the past, present, and future of Merge but this summer we’re throwing a party to mark this anniversary: XX Merge, five days of music by Merge artists past and present in the summer heat of sunny North Carolina – July 22-26, 2009.”

The exact location, lineup (fingers crossed for a NMH reunion) and ticket information are not yet available, but it goes without saying that this is incredibly exciting news.
