Troika: Day One by uncdiversions

The best thing about Troika, and perhaps also the most frustrating, is that it’s incredibly hard to pick out which shows you’re going to attend. With such great music on the bill for the evening, it was hard for me to pick out which performances I would schlep myself over to and which I’d have to let pass by the wayside. In the end I think I picked out what had to be four of the best.

Lost In The Trees and The Future Kings Of Nowhere’s performances at Durham Central Park were both great. Playing outside, Lost in the Trees sound was incredibly rich and organic while the Future Kings seemed all the more anthemic with a crowd standing feet away on ground level and surrounded by empty space and night air. Things at Duke Coffeehouse were a little more rough and rowdy. Sorry About Dresden were more alive and firey than I have personally ever seen them, and Red Collar absolutely destroyed the crowd, delivering a version of “Used Guitars” that sampled Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin'” in celebration of Barack Obama’s presidential victory.

If these pictures intrigue you, and you want to have an awesome time like I will going out on the remaining days of Troika, check out the schedule at www.troikamusicfestival.org.
