It is with great sadness I must inform the readers of this blog that Cy Rawls, local music connoisseur and incredible friend and supporter to so many in this area, passed away Friday morning at Duke University Hospital.

Rawls was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in July and had been battling the ailment bravely. Because he was without insurance, members of the local music community organized a line-up of benefit shows to raise money to pay for his healthcare. Luckily, Rawls had become well enough at that point to go out and enjoy the community’s tribute to the man it saw as one of its biggest fans.

Though I only spoke to him on a couple of occasions, I have heard enough about him from those who I have come to know well in the music community to see that Rawls’ dedication to this scene was greater than perhaps anyone who follows it. So much so, that it seems trite and inadequate to say that he will be greatly missed for a long time to come, but he certainly will.

Listed below is the info for Rawls’ funeral as posted on his blog by his father.
